Usually I write a blurb about my couple and their unique and wonderful relationship. I thought I’d tell you instead a little story from Lai + Mike’s engagement session at the Griffith Observatory. So typically my couples and I discuss engagement locations and different ways to make their session more personal (i.e. meaningful locations, props relating to their favorite things). In Lai + Mike’s case, Mike told me flat out that they didn’t have any props because they were boring. I laughed and said don’t worry about it – you guys are great by yourselves! And if I only knew sooner how much he liked Half & Half boba, I would have suggested using their drinks as props or an excuse to go get some :). I guess Mike felt bad by not having any props so what did he do?! Well he went to every girl’s favorite store – Tiffany & Co. and bought Lai a necklace as her “prop”. Um yeah best prop ever? He sent me a message asking me to hide the pretty blue box in my camera bag and bust it out at the right time during the session. I think I was more nervous than Mike actually was. I really wanted Lai to be surprised and I’m not very good at “hiding” things. So towards the end of the shoot, with the beautiful LA skyline in the background, I posed them facing away from me (“look at the skyline” I told them) and then asked Mike to help me with my gear (I know – I’m so sneaky huh :)). He gave her the box and she actually thought he brought an empty box from home just for photos lol. She soon realized that he remembered a necklace she had looked before and went out of his way to make the session even more special for her. I can’t wait to see all the romance at their upcoming wedding!
